[MOU News] Beyond-G Global Innovation Center Signs MoU with University of Southampton Malaysia On July 15, the Beyond-G Global Innovation Center at Hanyang University, led by Professor Sun-Woo Kim, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) to promote joint research in next-generation communication technologies. Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate on joint research and technology exchange in key areas, including next-generation communications, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, AI-RAN, and drone technologies, as well as the development of related service platforms. This partnership aims to strengthen global research collaboration and support the advancement of future communication technologies in Korea and Malaysia. Professor Sun-Woo Kim (Director of the Beyond-G Global Innovation Center), stated that the collaboration represents an important step in expanding the center’s global joint research platform, adding that it will promote international cooperation in both technology development and talent exchange. The Beyond-G Global Innovation Center at Hanyang University was established in August 2024 after being selected for the Global Innovative Research Center (IRC) program in the field of next-generation communications, led by Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT. [MOU체결] University of Southampton Malaysia와의 차세대 통신 기술 공동연구를 위한 MoU 체결 한양대학교 Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터(센터장 김선우 교수)는 지난 7월 15일, 말레이시아의 사우스햄턴 말레이시아 대학(University of Southampton Malaysia, 이하 UoSM)과 차세대 통신 기술 공동연구를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.UoSM은 2024년 QS(Quacquarelli Symonds) 세계 대학 순위에서 80위를 기록했으며, 영국 명문 연구중심 대학 연합인 러셀그룹(Russell Group)의 창립 대학인 사우스햄턴대학교의 분교로서 세계 100대 교육기관으로 평가받고 있다. 이번 협약을 통해 양 기관은 파트너십 프로그램을 바탕으로 ▲차세대 통신 ▲인공지능(AI) ▲로봇 ▲AI-RAN ▲드론 기술 및 관련 서비스 플랫폼 개발 등 다양한 분야에서 공동연구와 기술 교류를 본격적으로 추진할 계획이다. Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터와 UoSM 간 협력은 한국과 말레이시아 양국의 미래 통신 기술 및 관련 산업 발전을 위한 전략적 기반을 마련하는 것으로, 글로벌 차원의 기술 경쟁력 확보에도 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 김선우 센터장은 “이번 UoSM과의 협력은 Beyond-G 센터가 추구하는 글로벌 공동연구 플랫폼 전략의 일환으로, 통신기술의 국제 공동 개발과 인력 교류에 있어 중대한 전환점이 될 것”이라며, “석·박사과정 학생 교류뿐 아니라 말레이시아 기업들이 센터 참여기업으로 함께 연구에 참여할 수 있도록 개방해 글로벌 네트워크를 지속적으로 확장하고, 한양대가 미래 통신 분야를 선도하는 연구 거점으로 자리매김할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다. 한양대학교 Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터는 미래 통신 혁신 기술, 6G 기반 핵심 네트워크 기술, 인공지능 센싱 융합 기술 등을 중심으로 세계 최고 수준의 초일류 통신 연구 허브로 도약하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 동 센터는 지난 2024년 8월, 과학기술정보통신부가 주관하는 글로벌 선도연구센터(IRC) 사업의 차세대 통신 분야에 선정되어 설립되었다.
