[News] Professor Sun Woo Kim Receives Commissioner’s Commendation for Intellectual Property at GISC 2025
Professor Sunwoo Kim, Director of the Beyond-G Global Innovation Center, received the Commissioner’s Commendation for Intellectual Property at the 2025 Global ICT Standard Conference (GISC 2025), held from November 3 to 5 at L Tower, Yangjae.
Now in its 9th year, GISC stands as Korea’s premier event on standards and intellectual property, bringing together global experts to discuss international standardization and IP strategies in emerging technologies including AI, 6G, and quantum. Approximately 1,000 experts participated under the theme “AI for All”, exploring standardization for inclusive innovation.
Professor Kim was recognized for:
▲ Establishing IP strategies and achieving technology transfer and licensing based on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs)
▲ Contributing to standards and patent development through international bodies, such as 3GPP
▲ Leading IP-R&D and industrial expansion in next-generation communication and sensing technologies, incorporating AI, quantum, and positioning technologies
The Center highlighted that this award reinforces its research vision of “Core Technology → International Standardization →Intellectual Property → Commercialization” and will further drive technology development, IP creation, global licensing, and commercialization initiatives.
한양대학교 융합전자공학부 김선우 교수(현 Beyond-G 글로벌혁신센터장)는 2025년 11월 3일부터 5일까지 서울 양재동 엘타워에서 열린 「2025 글로벌 ICT 표준 컨퍼런스(GISC 2025)」에서 지식재산처장 표창을 수상했다.
올해로 9회째를 맞은 GISC는 국내 최대 규모의 표준·지식재산(IP) 전문 행사로, AI·6G·양자 등 전략기술 분야의 글로벌 표준화 및 IP 전략을 논의하는 대표적인 국제 플랫폼이다. 이번 행사는 지식재산처와 과학기술정보통신부가 공동 주최했으며, 세계 주요 국가 및 표준화 기관이 함께 참여해 ICT 표준화 비전과 국제 협력 생태계를 구축 하고 있다. 올해 주제는 “AI for All(모두의 AI)”로, 국내외 전문가 약 1,000여 명이 참여해 포용적 혁신사회를 위한 표준화 방향을 논의했다.
김선우 교수(현 Beyond-G 글로벌혁신센터장)는,
▲표준필수특허(SEP) 기반의 지식재산 전략 수립 및 기술이전·라이선싱 성과
▲국제표준화기구(예: 3GPP) 중심의 표준 기술 및 특허 개발 기여
▲ 차세대 통신·센싱 분야에서 AI·양자·측위 기술을 포함한 IP-R&D 추진 및 산업 확산 활동등의 성과를 종합적으로 높이 평가받았다.
Beyond-G 글로벌혁신센터 측은 이번 수상을 계기로
- 센터의 핵심 그룹 (Hyper Resolution, Hyper Connectivity, Hyper Intelligence) 을 중심으로 한 기술개발과 표준·특허 창출 가속화
- 산학연 협력 및 글로벌 라이선싱 네트워크 확대
- IP-R&D 체계 고도화 및 사업화 중심의 연구단계 전환 등을 통해 국가 기술경쟁력 강화에 더욱 박차를 가할 계획이다.
또한 이번 수상은 Beyond-G 글로벌혁신센터가 제시한 ‘원천기술 → 국제표준화 → 지식재산화 → 사업화’의 연구 비전이 실제 표준·IP 생태계 속에서 구현되고 있음을 보여주는 의미 있는 지표로 평가된다.
