[News] Dong-Geon Kim Awarded LG Electronics Special Prize at KICS 2025 Fall Conference

Donggeon Kim, a researcher at the Beyond-G Global Innovation Center, received the LG Electronics Special Prize (Excellence Award) at the 2025 Fall General Conference of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS), held from November 19 to 21 in Gyeongju.His award-winning paper, “DDPG-based Beam Tracking under Antenna Mutual Coupling”, introduces a reinforcement learning approach to beam tracking in millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications. The study was recognized for proposing a novel method to enhance beam tracking performance in environments with antenna mutual interference. The LG Electronics Special Prize is presented to outstanding research in radio, communications, antennas, and wireless technology, highlighting studies that demonstrate both academic excellence and practical industrial applicability. This achievement not only showcases Kim’s technical expertise but also highlights the Beyond-G Global Innovation Center’s leadership and competitiveness in advanced communication technology research. The Center will continue to advance research in radio and communication technologies while fostering talented researchers to strengthen Korea’s technological competitiveness in the field.

[센터소식] 김동건 연구원, 2025년도 추계학술대회(한국통신학회) LG전자 특별상 우수상 수상

Beyond-G 글로벌혁신센터의 김동건 연구원이 11월 19일부터 21일까지 라한셀렉트 경주에서 개최된 한국통신학회 주최, '2025년도 추계종합학술대회'에서 LG전자 특별상 우수상을 수상했다. 우수상으로 선정된 논문은 「 안테나 상호 간섭 환경 DDPG 기반 빔 추적 알고리즘, DDPG-based Beam Tracking under Antenna Mutual Coupling」으로, 밀리미터파(mmWave) 통신에서 필수적인 빔 추적 기술을 강화학습 기반 접근으로 새롭게 제시한 점이 높은 평가를 받았다.

수여되는 LG전자 특별상은 LG전자가 전파·통신·안테나·무선기술 등 분야의 우수 연구를 장려하기 위해 마련한 특별상이며, 학술적 가치와 산업적 활용 가능성을 모두 갖춘 연구에 주어지는 상이다. 김동건 연구원의 이번 수상은 기술적 역량뿐 아니라 Beyond-G 글로벌혁신센터의 향후 통신 기술 분야 연구 확대와 경쟁력을 다시 한 번 확인한 성과로 평가된다.
