[NEWS] Beyond-G Global Innovation Center Supports Research on Next-Generation Data Engine Technologies for Safer Autonomous Driving

 

Prof. Soonmin Hwang’s research team at Hanyang University’s Department of Automotive Engineering is developing next-generation Data Engine technologies to enable safe and reliable autonomous driving systems. As end-to-end AI-based autonomous driving technologies become more widely adopted, the quality and diversity of training data have become critical factors affecting vehicle performance and safety.

 

The team is conducting research on data selection, processing, and augmentation technologies to obtain and generate high-quality data for autonomous driving AI. Using causality-based analysis, the researchers identify critical scenarios associated with autonomous driving failures. They are also using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) to build virtual environments and developing edge-case generation technologies to improve the robustness and adaptability of AI models to real-world environments

 

The related research is being carried out with support from Hanyang University’s Beyond-G Global Innovation Center as part of the Innovation Research Center (IRC) Program supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The Beyond-G Global Innovation Center plans to continue supporting research in AI-based next-generation mobility and communication technologies.

 

[NEWS] Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터, 안전한 자율주행을 위한 차세대 Data Engine 기술 연구 지원

 

한양대학교 미래자동차공학과 황순민 교수 연구팀은 안전하고 신뢰성 있는 자율주행 시스템 구현을 위해 차세대 Data Engine 기술을 연구하고 있다. End-to-End AI 기반 자율주행 기술이 확산되면서, 학습 데이터의 품질과 다양성은 차량의 성능과 안전성을 좌우하는 핵심 요소로 부각되고 있다.

 

연구팀은 데이터 선별·가공·증강 기술을 기반으로 자율주행 AI 학습에 필요한 고품질 데이터를 확보·생성하는 연구를 수행하고 있으며, 인과성 기반 분석을 통해 자율주행 실패와 관련된 핵심 시나리오를 식별하고, 3D Gaussian Splatting(3DGS)을 활용한 가상환경 구축 및 엣지 케이스 생성 기술을 통해 AI 모델의 강건성과 실제 환경 대응 능력 향상을 목표로 하고 있다.

 

관련 연구는 과학기술정보통신부와 한국연구재단이 지원하는 혁신연구센터(IRC, Innovation Research Center) 사업의 일환으로 한양대학교 Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터의 지원을 받아 수행되고 있다. Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터는 앞으로도 AI 기반 차세대 모빌리티 및 통신 기술 분야의 연구를 지속적으로 지원할 계획이다.
