[NEWS] Research Team Supported by Beyond-G Global Innovation Center Wins Second Place at CVPR 2026 Autonomous Driving Challenge
Prof. Soonmin Hwang’s research team in Hanyang University’s Department of Automotive Engineering placed second among 77 teams from universities, research institutions, and companies worldwide in the Cooperative Perception category of the “DriveX Grand Challenge,” held at the CVPR 2026 DriveX Workshop in Denver, Colorado. The team was also invited to present its research at the DriveX Workshop on the opening day of CVPR 2026.
The competition, held as part of the DriveX Workshop, challenged participants to develop AI models that integrate information from vehicle-mounted and roadside infrastructure sensors to improve object detection in complex urban environments. To address differences in sensor positions, occlusion, and limitations in detecting distant objects, the team developed an AI technology based on Bidirectional Deformable Cross-Attention. The proposed model achieved an approximately 9.5-percentage-point improvement in mean average precision (mAP) compared with the baseline model.
The related research is being carried out with support from Hanyang University’s Beyond-G Global Innovation Center as part of the Innovation Research Center (IRC) Program supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The Beyond-G Global Innovation Center plans to continue supporting research in AI-based autonomous driving, cooperative mobility, and 6G-enabled intelligent mobility technologies.
[NEWS] Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터 지원 연구팀, CVPR 2026 자율주행 챌린지 세계 2위 달성
한양대학교 미래자동차공학과 황순민 교수 연구팀은 미국 덴버에서 개최된 국제 컴퓨터 비전 학회 CVPR 2026 DriveX Workshop에서 열린 “DriveX Grand Challenge” Cooperative Perception 부문에 참가해 전 세계 대학·연구기관·기업 등 77개 참가팀 가운데 세계 2위를 차지하였다. 또한 연구팀은 학회 개막일에 진행된 DriveX Workshop에 초청되어 연구 성과를 발표하였다.
이번 대회는 차량과 도로변 인프라에 설치된 센서 정보를 융합해 복잡한 도심 환경에서 객체 인식 성능을 높이는 AI 모델 개발을 목표로 진행되었다. 연구팀은 센서 간 위치 차이, 시야 가림, 원거리 객체 인식 한계 등을 해결하기 위해 양방향 변형 가능 교차 어텐션(Bidirectional Deformable Cross-Attention) 기반 AI 기술을 개발하였으며, 기존 기준 모델 대비 평균 인식 정확도(mAP)를 약 9.5% 포인트 향상시켰다.
관련 연구는 과학기술정보통신부와 한국연구재단이 지원하는 혁신연구센터(IRC, Innovation Research Center) 사업의 일환으로 한양대학교 Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터의 지원을 받아 수행되고 있다. Beyond-G 글로벌 혁신센터는 앞으로도 AI 기반 자율주행, 협력형 모빌리티, 6G 기반 지능형 모빌리티 기술 분야의 연구를 지속적으로 지원할 계획이다.
